Iran, EU to broaden agricultural cooperation

TEHRAN- In their first joint meeting with officials of Iranian Agriculture Ministry in Tehran, the visiting members of the European Parliament's Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) voiced readiness for transferring new technologies and innovations in agriculture sector to the Islamic country, IRIB news reported on Sunday.

During this meeting, Director General of Directorate-General (DG) for Agriculture and Rural Development in the European Commission Jerzy Bogdan Plewa, expressed his organization’s willingness for assisting Iran with improving its standards of food production with modern technology.

Iranian Deputy Director of Agricultural Planning, Economic and Rural Development Research Institute at the Ministry of Agriculture Ali Kiani presented a report on capabilities, capacities and plans of the Iranian agriculture sector, which accounts for 6.11 percent of country’s GDP.

Iranian officials participating the meeting emphasized on the need to bolster partnership in agricultural, technical, and research fields with the EU.
